View Full Version : RMC tests on 6175/ 6165 kHz
Hi all,
RMC tests now on the new frequency 6175 kHz (ex 6165).
73, Klaus
Hi all,
Yes, RMC programme is currently broadcasted in DRM on 6175 kHz by MCR (a subsidiary of TDF) from Fontbonne near Monaco with only 10 kW DRM into a CHR 2/ 1/ 0.3 antenna beamed to Paris. Reception could be also possible during day in south of Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg... RFI is not using 6175 kHz frequency at this moment so it is convenient for RMC/MCR tests.
Reports welcomed.
All the best from Jacques.
Salut Jacques et tous,
only a weak signal this morning in Frankfurt, see attachment
Simone
Salut Simone and all!
Nice to hear from you again, Simone!
Thanks for RMC / MCR report, it could be better earlier in the morning or late afternoon but this transmission is not targeted to Germany.
Regards, 73.
Jacques
Hi,
It's quite a long time since I checked this frequency - pretty good reception today from 09:55 - 11:00.
regards
Bob
ps I noticed that in Dream the SD CRC indicator was constantly yellow for this transmission even while MSC CSC was green and audio was decoded. Also there was no station text displayed (Right hand part of Dream Window) although there was a station label. Did anyone else have this ?
Hi all,
Signal only between S7 and S8 but nearly perfect results and quite high SNR! Perfect listening.
Salut Jacques,
great to hear from you again, good results at the beginning this morning.
@ Klaus: Seems there is another error in the schedule, yesterday and today transmission started at 0700 (not 0600)

Good rf results this morning, although in DREAM SDC CRC was constantly yellow.
The audio quality at 14.56kbps is not adequate for DRM, it sounds very similar to what I hear when receiving a local longwave or mediumwave AM station.
...and we all know that most listeners were lost there because of the better audio quality on FM.
DRM and this low bitrate make no sense in the long run.
Salut Jacques et tous,
perfect decoding today, although signal got weaker in the second half. Again low bitrate and no SBR, no text messages, with reception like this it should be possible to change the coderate and use SBR, but don´t know how it is in the target area.
Btw, seemed there were still errored data in the SDC!
Simone
Not so good this afternoon.
Salut Hervé, Jacques et tous
A short report from this afternoon shows a much better result compared to the previous QRG.
Salut Jacques et tous,
quite good results this morning, still a problem with the SDC.
Simone
Hi,

Salut Hervé, Jacques et tous.
Good signal this morning S8/S9 slow QSB to S5 .
Her my report over 70min.
Salut Jacques et tous,
a weak signal, good decoding and there is still the SDC problem!

Hi all,
good conditions this morning, maybe a higher bitrate and using SBR would be possible, no change concerning the SDC problem.

Hi all!
Thank you for sending reports for RMC / MCR 6175kHz DRM transmissions. Not bad for such a small transmitter...
Yes, we have QRM from China starting at 1500 UTC; audio quality will be soon improved (64QAM and CR 0.5).

RMC is back on 6165 kHz.
Strong interference with Hrvatska Radio !

Hi,
Yes, one can clearly see the co-channel carrier in the SNR graph.
Terje
Hi all,
great results at the beginning with the higher bitrate, not sure what happened at 0738, no audio decoding then, see attachment
Later on 6165 kHz also a strong AM co-channel interferer.

Nice to receive RMC at the minimum acceptable drm audio quality.
Driving from 45896 Gelsenkirchen to 48147 Muenster, where the dropouts to the end occured.
The signal is just strong enough in open field but has not enough margin in town.
Nearly perfect reception this morning, I did not hear any dropouts.
Hi all.
Her is my log from this morning signalwas low QSB S6/S2 and very fast down to S1

Hi all,
For your information, TDF has just received from French Regulatory body (CSA: Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel) an authorisation for a DRM transmission from Meudon (former microwave tower 100m asl at 5 km from SW of Paris) with 400W into a three element vertical yagi beamed NE (ERP about 1500W) and frequency is 25765kHz. This signal is currently on air since end of last week (25/11/2005)
TDF will transmit during 9 months 24/7 except breakdown....!?
All reports welcomed.
Regards / 73.
Jacques Gruson F6AJW:)
Hi Jaques,
could you please give us the exact coordinates of that tower? Then I will put it n DRMcalc.
Hi Carknue...
I will send you this info tomorrow from work; not available here and a bit late now....
Good night!
Jacques
Hi all!
Exact coordinates of Meudon Tower:
- lat: 48°48'09"N
- long: 02°12'15"E,
- antenna 3 el V Yagi at 61°, 237m asl, 66m above ground level.
I have sent my first message under an other item and made a mistake when sending it first on 6175kHz RMC test. So please use the item TDF 25765kHz for exchanging info about our transmission. Thank you by advance.

Salut Simone, Daniel, Carsten, Fritz and all,
May I wish you first a very happy and prosperous new year 2006...
Thank you also for keeping on sending reports to me from RMC / MCR transmission on 6175kHz, which is not bad despite the low power transmitter in use.
In a few days, I hope before the end of this week, we will transmit from Issoudun on 3965kHz with only 1kW DRM into a dipole at 0.25 lambda in order to have an omnidirectionnal diagram and a coverage of France (or partly) or part of Europe.
Please watch this frequency!
Best regards / 73.
Jacques Gruson
What is braodcasting in the moment (19:36 UTC) on 3965 khz? I hear a S9 AM signal in Italian I think , that is not listed.
Hi Carsten,
according to ADDX listing it should be
19h00-20h00 RFE-RL Praha in romanian
20h00-21h00 RFI in serbian

Quite good driving from Recklinghausen to Dortmund via A2, A45, B1:
Hi,
I started today to receive DRM on my laptop -without- the AC adaptor, but with a very short battery time. So now I alternate shorter reception reports, and then battery charge (I am without job since a few days, I can do that all day then, hehe)... My reception improved of about 10-15dB in SNR on all frequencies, including 6175.
The result : RMC is really audible all day long here with SNR between 18 and 25 dB. Here is an example, on the following trend, the 2 first dropouts might be Tx-related, the 2 others come from my computer. But overall result is excellent.
73, de Stephane
By the way here is a programme I noticed on 18th december at around 1530 UT on 6175 : Radio Maria, consisted in repeated prayers in french. I don't know if it is transmitted every sunday on RMC DRM or if it was a single test, I noticed this reception to MCR by e-mail at that time.
73, de Stephane
Salut Chaques et tous,
quite good reception this afternoon.
73, Daniel
Salut Jacques, all,
good results today, there was not much on 3965 kHz before.
Simone
Hi,
Increasingly good results here since I log this frequency with laptop running on batteries only and avoiding all QRM sources. Before 11:00 UT was the worst SNR time in my former day-long logs reported to MCR. Now it's far better ! Almost 99% audio between 9:50 and 10:50.
73, de Stephane
Thanks to all friends for sending reports on 6175 kHz DRM transmission.

Hi,
Again, perfect reception this morning until sign off.

Not so perfect here, especially in the 2nd part quite weak signal. Green graph is fieldstrength in dBµV.
Hello to all,
Perfect this morning, with only computer's QRM at the start of the log. I have difficulties these days with both AM and DRM because of a new and unidentified source of interferences in the neighborough that ruins MW and SW reception below 8 MHz, sometimes during hours long.
73, de Stephane
Hi,
Very good this morning except a few very short dropouts (not sure if local interference or Tx-related).

Hi Terje,
Really awful!!!??? For me, from your log it seemed to be very good...

Jacques
Hi Jacques,
In the early morning Jacques, in the early morning! Later on (after I had logged another QRG) it was "back to normal". Sorry for the confusion.
But generally, the conditions this morning were really bad, at least here. No RMC decoding, no RTL x 2, and 13.81 MHz was very shaky from 0802 UTC as you can see below.
Even 3.965 MHz just after 06 UTC was not possible to decode here this morning, which is unusual.
Best regards,
Now, here is a more detailed log of RMC from this morning. The log starts 0620 UTC, although there was nothing but QRM to hear at that time. There was severe QRM from 6.180 MHz in French, and from 6.165 MHz in Croatian (?) - the latter splattered into the DRM channel and it was only possible to barely notice that there was DRM on 6175 kHz. Then VOA signed on at 0630 UTC in English on 6.180 MHz. There was co-channel QRM on RMC also; I noticed this around 0710 UTC.
Then, suddenly at 0745 UTC RMC came through with S9 +30 dB signal and 100% decoded audio. Just before 8 UTC the signal faded out for a while with a loss of >40 dB in strength. The same thing happened again around 0815 UTC. From around 0820 and on the reception was stable and the decoding was perfect until the end of the transmission.
Interesting: Today RMC started playing at 0857 UTC, even later than it did yesterday. I think this is because of the bad conditions for the time being, as the MUF was rather poor.
The only change in the configuration was that I used an 18 m long antenna today instead of the 11 m yesterday.

Hi,
