Hi all,
Radio Luxembourg now on this new frequency.
Only 8 dB at my location, should be much better in the UK.

Compared to last weeks log of 7145 kHz signal is slightly stronger, but sync losses and/or interruptions in datastream seem to continue :( . These caused the drop outs except the one at 14:45 which was my fault.

Sound quality is good and near to the historic original

Hi,

Not too bad, even if I'm not in the target area. At 1300 UT a carrier started modulating a 2 kHz tone intermittently, which totally downed Luxy.

Some signal is getting as far as New Zealand, but nothing good enough for any decoding using DRT1. I'm suprised to see anything at all in my log, considering the distance and time of day.

Hi Roland,
the tx breaks have always been there on this frequency and it fades away here at 14.45 ish every day, even 7145 is non existant here @ 15.45-18.00, I can only hope RTL can get all these problems sorted? Sadly most people in the UK have given up with Luxy's return, though saying that most people don't know they are back.

Hello to all,

Good music with Dave Christian, but far too many dropouts. It wasn't comfortable to listen to 7295 and 7145 around 1500-1600 UTC. By the way, here's something that could explain my improved SNR results on these frequencies :

BCE Radio Luxembourg to WeEu in DRM from Feb. 7:
0900-1545 7295 NAU 040 kW / 275 deg German, ex JUL 040 kW / 290 deg
1545-1700 7145 NAU 040 kW / 275 deg German, ex JUL 040 kW / 290 deg

These T-systems registrations are taken from Glenn Hauser's DX Listening Digest from 8th february (http://www.worldofradio.com). If it is real, now the signal comes from Nauen, not from Jülich. Would Nauen be a great site for RTL to transmit to France on 31 or 41m band? I have no idea.

Good morning,

we are aware of the problem and are currently working on it. Please be patient as this takes a few days to analyse and find a lasting solution. In the meantime I would be interested if there are significant signal level differences between signals on 7295 kHz and 5990 kHz and the interference situation on 7295 kHz and 7145 kHz in the UK.

Hi,
Some enormous carrier is sweeping over 7295 kHz today around 1030 UTC, killing Luxy totally at times. See enclosed waterfall

Terje

PS:

Roland, you don't have to be sorry, but In my picture the sweep does not sweep through the frequency like it did half an hour before the shot. At that time a carrier swept from 7280 kHz thru 7330 kHz (we checked that both in Stockholm and in Biberstein). The signal blanked out Luxy completely in Stockholm, here it was 10 dB (at least) stronger than the wanted signal. I have another 7 screen shots. We just wondered who is sweeping with such power - mystery.

PPS: By the way, did you notice it yourself??

Hi Terje,

sorry, but I don't see any sign of a sweeping carrier in your waterfall plots. To me, this doesn't look like a sweeping carrier at all but rather like a transmitter/encoder/stream related problem with interruptions in the transmitted signal. In between the interruptions, a carrier, either transmitted by Nauen's transmitter itself or by a co-channel station, is clearly visible. If an "enormous carrier" were responsible for the interruptions, this carrier would be invisible.
I have seen such problems on signals from other DRM stations as well.

Roland

Hi,

I noticed the sweeping carrier here in Luxembourg too. It seemed to sweep from 7300 to 7315. The 7295 khz DRM transmitter was stopped for a short moment to verify that the exciter was working correctly (which was the case).

A large number of service breaks were caused this morning as we have been investigating the reasons for the regular interruptions that occured frequently during the last weeks. Hopefully the engineers are on the right track ...

Michel

21-03-2006, 13:52
Hi again,

Here is a screenshot of Luxy without the DRM stream. The sweeping carrier is clearly seen. Michel is right, here the "sweeper" does not sweep through the channel, turns just above. This was not the case when Sixten Skyped a good half hour before - then we both checked and saw the sweep from 7280 thru 7330 kHz. As I was on Skype, the sound card was in use, and therefore i had no chance to document the event.

The Input PSD shot was taken when the DRM was off and shows the interferer just turning right (difficult to press the PRT SCRN button precisely).

Since this broadcast of Radio Luxemburg is emitted from Nauen I couldn't hardly get any reception. So I was surprised to get this result today.

Signal is definitely coming from an eastern direction. So I guess it's still Nauen on air!?

BUT: Too many dropouts (where at least some of them were Tx related) made listening difficult. After 15:15 conditions went back to normal (i.e. bad), also since 15:30 interference from 7300 kHz, thus I stopped logging.

Hi,

A contribution again. The part in the beginning was unattended, then there was much music until the two transmitter breaks around 12 UTC. Around 1250 UTC the signal weakened and the decoded audio suffered. Starting around 1340 UT it sounds like a Data Churner is on around 7.302 MHz, which could have been the cause of interference.

Hi all!

I have notice that the webstream has also dropouts from time to time.

Perhaps the 7295khz Transmitter gets the audio via internet and the internet connection from the "Radio Luxembourg" server reached full capacity and the DRM Transmitter switches into AM mode when there is no audio data from the web (???)

By the way:
It would be very fine if "Radio Luxembourg" can be heard via 1440khz in the night hours! :)

Hi feinstei,
just open the logfile:click on the button "open", then select your logfile,
select a record, by clicking on the time/ frequency in the box, you should see the graphs then,
after that click on the button "capture", then the .png file is stored in the same folder where your logfile is.
Which step is causing the problem?
