Not really bad I would say.

Finally ending up in the dead zone, but good results with good audio.
Reception was not really good. But many dropouts occured only because Dream does not support UEP with the current versions of FAAD2.
Hi all,
bad results using the DWT, no interferences, quite long IR

Hi all,
A first log on BBCWS 7465 kHz from Kvitsoy, not a good one in terms of reception. Signal was not weak but due to the big bitrate the audio decoding was not good. Oddly, the overall sound impression was over average, much better than anyone can realize looking at the log.
John
After transmission on 1296 kHz had ended, I tuned to 7465 kHz and found a strong signal.
Excellent result! 100%. I stopped logging shortly before 23:00 UTC to retune to the now DRM-free 1296 kHz channel in order to perhaps get some idea why I usually get an increase in SNR there shortly after 2300 UTC.
After I had returned to 7465 kHz later, transmission continued until about 23:09 UTC, again with 100% audio.
Kvitsoy looks like being a perfect TX site for my location.
Roland
Hi all,
here are my results of the complete 7 hours transmission, strong signal, long IR, signal was not synchronized with the signal from Rampisham, the dropouts at 1900 were caused by myself,
73, Simone
Very good reception. There were no audible dropouts, because UEP is working in the DRMSWR. Some UEP effects were audible.
@Roland you should update your drmtx.txt file from time to time. I added a lot of new frequencies recently.

Hi Carsten,
I had manually updated my old drmtx.txt file yesterday, but because the filename has been changed not long ago to drmtx.new and the old file is no longer used now (a fact, I already knew but had forgotten), it did not work and I did not check it after the change. I sometimes prefer to manually upgrade the file.

No fun this early evening.
Interference from both sides, and a fast and deep fading on the signal.
I think there is a transmitter problem. The whole spectrum is jumping quite strong, I don't thing that this is fading. Never saw this before.
Hi,
My first result from BBC on this frequency from neighbouring Norway.
Time: 18:00 - 18:33 UTC.
Hi all,
bad results this evening, deep fading, long IR, interference from adjacent channels...
73, Simone
Currently (21:09 UTC), Kvitsoy's signal is weak and there is very strong interference from an arabian station transmitting on 7460 kHz. The announcer is talking a lot about Magreb countries, I assume it is Radio Sahara.
I don't even get a constant station label from Kvitsoy.
Roland
Hi Roland & anyone else logging this freq. This frequency is meant to be from 16:00 -19:00 UTC but it seems sometimes it has been on longer than 19:00! Can you report on what happens tonight? I e mailed Norkring but they must all be in Berlin for IFA!
James
Hi James,
they did not stop transmission at 1900 UTC as scheduled, it is still on now (2000 UTC) like the past days, whenever I tuned in, it lasted past local midnight (2200 UTC).
But reception is much better than yesterday, will post results later.
Simone
Hi James,
I think that it would be a good idea to extend this transmission until 23 UTC, because reception is much better than on 1296 khz. Got a stable 28-29 dB tonight.
I am at home now so I can't check the details, but I think this frequency is ony coodinated (at HFCC) until 20:00 UTC. But as it seems to work well later I will ask the BBC if they want to extend & if we can extend (coordinate) it at HFCC. In fact I think this is an out of band frequency.
James

In fact I think this is an out of band frequency.
James
...but a dense crowded band :D !
A lot of TX breaks. Strong interference after 20:00 UTC. So maybe it is better to stop at 19 or 20 UTC. But the BBC should think about a solid 24 h coverage in central europe.
Hi all,
nearly perfect results until the end of the transmission (2203 UTC), shorter impulse response than the past days.

...good up here too, but ending up in a mere desaster at 18:45 UTC.
I would say good reception conditions for 7460 kHz except this akward noise coming from 5 kHz upwards :p
(Apparently that is Radio West Sahara interfering, although they tell you they broadcast on 7470 kHz)

The data service is carrying a prototype EPG. It consists of an MOT carousel carrying images, xml files and xsl stylesheets. Unfortunately we couldn't make it standards compliant in time for IFA/IBC so only a few receivers can decode it. If anyone wants to peek at it the proprietary content subtypes are as follows:
63 gzipped HTML
64 gzipped XML
65 gzipped XSL
Now the SDC is OK on 1296, we will be putting the same data stream on that transmission.

Roland
from 17:00 to 17:30, rest of the time good
A bit of interference.
The impulse response was interesting to watch as it often showed mostly two distinctive peaks with more or less equal amplitude about 1.3 ms apart, indicating two individual paths perhaps involving inonospheric layers at different heights, reflections at different geographical locations or perhaps multihop propagation.
Roland

Simone

Todays log: Generally good. As I couldn't see any interferers in the spectrum I guess dropouts were caused either by local electrical activities or by the signal simply becoming weak some times.

Hi,
Just a short log, but I usually don't pick up these transmsissions from neighbouring Norway. This is the result just before close down at 17:58 UTC.
Kvitsoy's signal was a lot stronger here (by about 30dB) than 7320 kHz from Rampisham. There was also less interference from other stations on it, so the choice was easy.

Hi Håkan,

So here is hopefully one of the last reports with these "typical" results with the interference from 1700- 1730.

Very strong signal, but interruptions every 30 minutes, navtex is an interesting feature:
TX breaks occured at quite regular intervals yesterday. There was also some interference during the latter part of my logging period.
The whole programme content was delayed by about 1.5 minutes as already observed on 9470 kHz.
Roland
Again, TX breaks occured at regular intervals as already encountered on 9470 kHz (it's the same TX and encoder anyway).
Audio was also delayed.
No report file since I forgot to switch logging on.
Roland
Apart from a lack of interference, the problems were the same as on 9470 kHz.
Roland
Not sure what caused the dropouts today.
Simone
Bad results towards the end, weaker signal and rather long IR.
Simone
There was a period with strange interference perhaps from a data transmission.
Roland
Some problems with interference, also a Tx problem.
Simone
The Tx problem (as on 9470 kHz this morning) occured again a few times, no problem on 7320 kHz at the same time.
Simone
As on 9470 kHz, there were periods when an invalid MSC was transmitted.
The result was obtained running the DRMSWR on a Linux machine using the 'wine' Windows emulator and the OSS sound system. I have no idea if this caused the somewhat shaky plot but audio was ok to listen to. DRMcalc was also used with the help of the 'wine' emulator.
Roland
Still TX breaks and invalid MSC.

Roland
A weaker signal and some interference in the last hour.
Simone
Hi.
Excellent reception, bad propagation in start.
;)
Some Tx problems today (short breaks, carrier) causing dropouts.
Simone
After 9470 kHz, TX breaks continued on 7465 kHz.
There was also occasional interference. Not bad overall, though.
Roland
Despite coming from the same modulator and most likely from the same transmitter, the signal on 7465 kHz did not show the frequent interruptions that plagued the transmission on 9470 kHz today.
Still only one service (@ 20.96 kbps) is being transmitted. Audio level on 7465 kHz is significantly higher than on 7320 kHz today.
