View Full Version : DW Taldom 9690 kHz 0400- 0600
Hi all,
strong signal only in the first half hour and towards the end, see attachment

Hi all,
a very weak signal at the start, not as good as in the evenings from Taldom, see attachment

Hi all,
good results only at the beginning and during the last half hour, see attachment

My highest peak SNR so far.
Taldom is not very lucky in their frequency choice again, a.m. interference from 9685kHz and also on 9690kHz from time to time.
The audio quality is not near fm at all and not adequate to such a good rf signal. Harmonic distortion on the music and sometimes audio level pumping as if there was an audio alc or compressor in use.

Good TX signal again:
Hi all,
better results than the last times I tried, see attachment

Hi all,
good results in the first hour and the last 15min, see attachment

Good rf receiving results.
The audio could be much better, harmonic distortions at higher audio frequencies.

RF signal is good, but the modulation sounds somehow strange.
When listening to music I hear something I can only describe as a pumping wah wah sound on the higher frequencies.

Here is a short zipped MP3 file.
I think the pumping wah-wah on the high pitched sound is audible.
Hi all,
good results only in the first hour, see attachemnt

Problems with interference:
Hi all,
bad results this morning, see attachment
The night transmission from Taldom works much better in my location.

Hi All
9690 kHz was much stronger than recently here today. The disturbed ionsophere must be bouncing electrons in odd directions ;-)
Still only broken audio, due to strong carrier on 9685 kHz.
No sign at all of any DRM signals in the 49m band here today.
Cheers, Chris
Hi all,
only about 40min with good results, see attachment

Hi All
Quite good for a while in Wellington today.

Signal rising a little late in the morning now, then very solid, but audio is bad in high frequencies, hear zipped mp3 (Lame 128kbps j-stereo) attached to the following post.

The high end of the audio spectrum does not sound good.
Zipped lame mp3 joint stereo 128 kbps:
Hi All
Good reception at times here in Wellington today. Problems with interference from 9685 kHz at times.
Cheers, Chris
Hi All
Good again for an hour today, then adjacent channel interference ruined the signal.
Cheers, Chris
Not perfect but also not really bad this morning.

A carrier right ontop to the end.
High audio frequencies sound distorted.
Hi all,
not too bad for about an hour this morning, see attachment

Propagation starting later than this transmission, a carrier on top to the end.
Hi All
Attached is my log for today. This log was using my FRG-100, but my DWT was also able to provide some good audio from today's broadcast.
Cheers, Chris
Hi
Here's my log of 9690 kHz for today.

Some fading at the beginning letting AM stations coming through ontop and 5kHz down.
Hi All
I logged today's transmission on 9690 kHz using both RNZI's loan DRT1 and my own FRG-100/DRM, both fed from the same antenna.
The DRT1 was decoded using Dream. The FRG-100 was decoded using the DRMSoftwareRadio.
Both logs are plotted on the attached graph.
From 0500 UTC there is interference here from Channel Africa on 9685 kHz. The DRT1/Dream combination appears much better at receiving under those conditions. I guess this is because of the bandpass filter option in Dream.

Good rf signal here, but inadequate audio quality, see following post:
FritzWue

There must be some kind of compressor/ processor active before the audio gets to the modulator. Inadequate dynamic range and wahwah effects, no pleasure to listen to that, also not in the car, where the high frequency tweeters are separated from the mid/bass chassis:
Hi all,
no decoding before 0520, also looks like transmission started an hour late.

I think they started late again, nothing at four here. There was a humming carrier on frequency to the end.
Hi All
My log of 9690 from today.
Again a comparison of DRT1 & FRG-100/DRM receivers, this time both decoded using the latest version of the DRMSWR.

Hi Chris,
do you use any kind of preselector in front of the DRT1?
If not the DRT1 will suffer from overload from the lower frequencies.
I think the FRG100 has a filter at the input.
Hi Fritz
I have an antenna splitter that also blocks out mediumwave frequencies, but there is no tuned filtering before the DRT.
My logs of 9690 have been unattended ones (I'm at work during that time), so I was guessing there was some interference going on.
Cheers, Chris

Strong signal with high snr, but totally inadequate audio quality with strong phantom harmonics and level pumping.
With this audio quality you will never get FM listeners to listen on shortwave, and I think this is the intention of DRM.
FritzWue

Signal was rising from nothing to snr >35dB within 10 minutes, later interference from a.m. signal.
World record:
Worst sound quality on all bands with 17kbps at the moment!
The rf signal is one of the best, but the audio link to the transmitter is BAD!
Hi all,
a weak signal in the first few minutes, good results later
Simone
Hi all,
similar results as yesterday.
Simone
Hi All
Very good reception here in Wellington today.
Cheers, Chris
Hi all,
good results this morning.
Simone
Hi All
Very good signal today, but unpleasant audio.
Cheers, Chris
Hi all,
a weak signal at the start, good results for an hour (0430- 0530)
Simone
Hi All
Very good reception during the first hour today, then varying greatly.
Cheers, Chris
Hi All
Today's log attached. Very good for the whole two hours.
Cheers, Chris
After a weak start signal got stronger within 20' and thus good results were not only obtained 'down under' but also up here ;)
Hi All
Excellent reception for the first hour today, then suffering interfence from Channel Africa on 9685 kHz from 0500-0555 UTC. 17.2k p/s audio sounding quite good.
Cheers, Chris
Hi All
Here's today's log of 9690 kHz, using the DRT1 instead of the FRG-100 for a change.
Cheers, Chris
Hi All
Here's my log for today. They were on-air from at least 03:30 UTC today, but suffering bad co-channel interference until 04:00
Cheers, Chris
with a carrier on the lower edge of the spectrum beginning 04:55 UT

Hi all,
A very good result until strong co-channel interference kept from decoding.

..only a few minutes, good signal:
Hi all.
Log this morning give very good report from this time , but all band is total black out. So this freq. was very fine no QSB or QRM .
Tihs is also first test of my BBA10 10Cm expriment antenna on this band.
:)
No transmission anymore? It is still scheduled, but there was not a single frame...
