Hi everyone,
Here is my log. You can clearly see an improvement in SNR when Sines joined Wertachtal.
Cheers,
Renι
Hi all,
signal strenght in my location dropped already at 0830, see attachment
Btw was this an SFN test?

Hi all
Thanks for reports in 7265 kHz.
This is test with SFN-synchronized network
from DW-Bonn.
7:05 to 8:55 UTC ( monday - friday )
Hi Daniel ( DF8UO )
The wather in Sines is very good, see attachement....

Hi,
Here is the today's reception log.
John
Hi,
Excellent result and audio of DW.
The program ended abruptly at 17:59 UTC.
Very good reception, this morning. At least as long as the transmission from Sines lasted. Wertachtal was not detectable after 9 UTC. But shortly after 9 UTC, Sines came back with dual language transmission in Celp 10.3 kbps. Both DRMSWR and of corse Dream were not able to decode any audio.
Hi all,
the following link to DW website gives more info to this SFN transmission test (in German language):

Transmission Sines only:
Tuesday 7:05 8:55 UTC 7265 KHz
Thursday 7:05 8:55 UTC 7265 KHz
Transmission Wertachtal only:
Saturday 7:05 8:55 UTC 7265 KHz
Sunday 7:05 8:55 UTC 7265 KHz

Hi,
7265 kHz at 17:05 - 17:58 UTC good reception.
Seppo
Hi all,
I only got good reception from 0910-0950, not quite as expected according to the schedule, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
according to the announcement from the DW website, on Sundays the transmission should only be transmitted from Wertachtal. But shortly before 9:00 UT the SNR was better than 30 db, afterwards it dropped below 24 dB. The signal strength did not change (9+30). At 9:15 the signal strength lowered to
S 9 and the SNR below 20 dB with some drop outs then. Before 9:15 the impulse response was quite narrow, after 9:15 quite wide. Unfortunately I stopped recording before 9:15.
It would be interesting to know the transmitter configuration before 9, after 9 and after 9:15 UT. Was it SFN until 9:00, only Sines until 9:15 and only Wertachtal after 9:15 or what combination? I presume it was Wertachtal after 9:15 because I live quite close to the "dead zone" around Wertachtal.

Hi,
Very good reception tonight. About 4 to 7 very short sound breaks noticed, the stereo sound was good for the used BR.
John
Hi,
at only 61 kms distance from Wertachtal, there were some problems with a sometimes long impulse response, see the attached report with a partial comparison of the results from both software decoders.
Roland
Hi,
and here to follow up my report above, is a screenshot of the impulse response taken at a time (08:08 UTC) when reception was ok. Later, the peaks became more of equal amplitude and audio could no longer be decoded for a while.
Roland
Reception improved a lot after 7:04 when Sines was switched on. In the first 4 minutes after sines was switched on, I noticed 3 complete resyncs of the Dream software. I don't know if the was a failure of Dream or a SFN tx problem.
Find attached my log from the complete morning. When Sines was switched on reception was much better. I even reached a new SNR top score of 37.8 dB. After 9h00 with Wertachtal only (i assume Sines was switched off and Wertachtal on) SNR was lower an decreased steadily.
Lets see what tomorrow happens ;-) Fortunately i have a long weekend
73, Daniel
And now the result from today. I added the SNR curve from yesterday for comparison (not a real big difference to yesterday). For me it seems at my location it is mainly the signal from Sines, responsible for the result. Tomorrow i will compare with Wertachtal.
73, Daniel
BTW: The audio dropout at 8h17 resulted from a strange signal which appeared and disappeared again
Find attached the result from today (Saturday, should be Wertachtal) and Friday (should be SFN test). Today much worse than Friday.

Hi All,
A rather good reception tonight. No sound breaks noticed.
John
Hi all,
not much difference between Wertachtal only and Sines & Wertachtal transmitting, see comparison of yesterdays and todays results attached
73, Simone
Hello Simone,
I presume - as there is a sudden drop in the SNR from 9:00 to 9:26 - only one transmitter was active during this period.
If you extract these
time from the log SFN was clearly better.
I am quite interested in this test but I can only listen on
weekends to DRM in morning hours.
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi Bernd,
maybe, I did notice this too, l but it does not match with their schedule!
73, Simone
Hi all,
again results were not quite as expected, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
here are todays results with only Sines transmitter on air
73, Simone
Hi,
Excellent reception of DW, from Sines?, this morning. The station went of the air at 08:59 UTC, just to appear a minute later, from Wertachtal? This time with no multimedia show.
"This is a test transmission from Deutsche Welle."

Hi all,
the SNR increased at 7:05 when Sines started. At 09:00 nothing
changed after a short interruption of the transmission.

Signal rising in the morning.
Switching from 17 to 21 kbps at 07:00 is a big difference in audio quality with my home loudspeakers.
17kbps may be OK on small transistor radios with tiny speakers, but if you want to attract listeners in the future with "near FM" quality, 17kbps really is too bad.
Find attached my log from this morning. When Sines is switched off SNR drops significantly

My morning log, reception was better after switching TX around 06:53 UTC.
The transmitted time service is 53 seconds late here after decoding on a 3GHz P4.
Is this the accumulated delay? That much?
EDIT: By the way, saw this too late, peaking 41.0 dB SNR with DRT1!

One more thing:
Here are two screenshots of 7265kHz at around 06:30 UTC.
There is a visible carrier on the signal but no decrease in SNR even when under 20dB. Is this insufficient carrier suppression or what?
Hello Fritz and all other DRM experts!
Now I'm totally bewildered! On its homepage DW says, that on Tuesday they make use of Sines only? Now when I'm writing this message, text information states, that Wertachtal is on air.
My both logs cover too short a period round the switching point (which can be clearly heard and seen), to give any further hints. Besides that reception was quite good yesterday. Neither the switing, supposed there was one, nor the shortening of my telescopic antenna rod, which was done WHILE LOGGING in order to fit it under a sunroof had significant influence.

Hi Andreas,
looks as if this is still an experimental service! :D
Maybe the labels are not always correct, and the engineers may perhaps use different settings from what is written in their schedule.
In my and i.e. Daniel's log we saw them switching the last days around 08:53 UTC, but maybe you in Hamburg are just at the right distance for equally good reception from both transmitters at Wertachtal and Sines.
Hi,
reception improved when Sines started at 7:05.
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi,
stable conditions here day by day, and once again but slight differences, when second Tx is switched on and off.
If it works like this also some 230 km ESE of my QTH they need not be afraid of the IFA
;)
@Fritz: with 20,96 kbps and P-Stereo they come near to FM sound..........

Hi all
After some time that I didn`t read the forum, I`m back for a short time because I will be on holidays next month.
Thanks for your reports. It is normal that there are some perturbations in our transmissions, because since the last 2 weeks we are upgrading the complete DRM system, hardware and software, removing the old encoders and installing the new ones, without stopping the main schedule. It is hard work, but all is runing OK. Please be patient. In the next month, we are able to serve you with DRM signals under the best conditions.

Unattended log,
skyhigh SNR in the morning before 08:00UTC peaking 41.9dB!

Hi,
The higher frequencies are still affected by bad propagation, so I gave 7 MHz a try.
Very good result from DW. Time: 11:09 - 12:00 UTC. CDA: 99%.

Hi,
Interesting results - a clear dropout at 09:00 when I assume Sines stopped transmission. SNR looks lower after 09:00 but decoding rate looks unchanged. Unfortunately my reception was unattended at that time.

Hi All
Log for 7265 kHz for today. Journaline data service was decodable for a while too.

Hi all,
This morning the signal here was extremely strong. 100 ΅V up to 2 mV on the Antenna connector. The SNR was also very good . A short break at 09 UTC was noted.

The dropout to the end was the Bochum A40 autobahn tunnel.
The rf signal is fine, but the audio quality is inadequate, SBR from DW sounds really bad in the car with separate tweeters.

Better results today than yesterday. Almost excellent result until 09H30, then a TX break out occured. At 09H40 untill 11H30 there were a rather good result except for the big dropouts for which I don't know the cause, then signal faded out. See the log file.

Hi all,
A rather good reception. The signal was strong and steady, no QRM only local noise. I dont know what happened near the end of the log, perhaps propagation path closed.
John.
Hi all.
Today also perfect signal S9+30db.
Her is 53min log.
Hi,
I logged this segment as coming from Sines - could be wrong, but the reception was remarkably good. However, I noted two breaks during the logging. One can be seen clearly in the log. Despite the bad propagation forecast I got a new SNR best: 38,5 dB SNR. :)
Terje
Hi Digger
You are wrong. This transmission is from Wertachtal. We are on air from 22:00 to 02:57 UTC.
Hi digger!
Forget my last message. Iwas confused with 3995 KHz. Efectivelly this transmission is from Sines.
Hi,
Very good today too, but no new SNR record...

A Reception-Report for 7265 kHz in SFN-Mode.
Hi.
Very good propagation on 7 Mhz today.
:)
Hi,
As Sixten mentioned, good reception on 7 MHz.
Total listening time today was 213 minutes (3½ hours).
The total CDA was 99.2 % including the two drop outs when the bit-rate changed. Was it also when one of the two SFN stations closed, that the signal dropped? (08:58 UTC)
